Stellar Phoenix Archive Password Recovery has been created to recover the lost or forgotten passwords for WinRAR and WinZIP archive files.

It is basically a password cracker that uses the brute force method to find the matching passwords for the protected archives.

This tool is very simple, lightweight and neat. It comes with a minimalistic interface that provides all the available options in its main window. It is, therefore, easy-to-use for anyone. The fact that it allows the users to configure the character set that will be used in the cracking of the password is a nice feature, as it can considerably reduce the time of the password recovery. Anyway, the long time required by this application to finish the cracking of a password is also its most important disadvantage. It can even take an entire day to crack a password. On the other hand, this is a downside that every archive password recovery application has, so there’s no need to be too harsh with Stellar Phoenix Archive Password Recovery in particular only for this cause.

An interesting feature of this tool that I haven’t yet met within other archive password recovery tools is the fact that the recovered passwords will be stored in a dictionary. Then the program will check for the needed password in this dictionary whenever you start other recovery processes. This can save some precious time when you search for archives that might have the same password as previously recovered ones.

In an end note, this is an average archive password cracking solution that fails to impress me. It’s indeed easy-to-use and lightweight, but except for these, there’s not much else to praise about it.
